Books for the 4th year medicine

As with all my other recommendations, they are just that - recommendations.
Some people like diagrams, some like lots of colors. And some just like cheap books with nothing but text.

The fourth year has several clinical courses and these usually don't have any "official book" - as if any subjects at Semmelweis do...
Anyway, here are my recommendations.

Internal Medicine

Just use whatever you got for the third year. See my comments: Book recommendations for Internal Medicine.

Pharmacology

See my recommendations for Pharmacology 3rd year! You will use the same books in the fourth year.
You will have pharmacology for four semesters (last semester of the 3rd year and both semesters of the 4th year).

Surgery

To make things simple: You don't really need a book in surgery - at least not for the first semester.
The stuff you need can easily be found online and use your own notes from lectures.
If you do want to buy a huge book (you know you're going to be a surgeon or just like spending your money on books), there are two books that seem to be student favorites.
Personally, I own Schwartz's Principles of Surgery, but some of my fellow students decided on the Sabiston, Textbook of Surgery.
They are both way, way beyond what you need for the 4th year. Hell, they are way beyond what you need until you start your training as a surgical intern, so whichever you get you'll be set!
I also own Doherty: Surgical Diagnosis and Treatmen (LANGE). It is cheap and contains some very good introductory material that is missing from the larger surgical books. This book alone is also enough for the subject. You actually don't need a book if you want to save money!!

Radiology

This is one of the most important clinical subjects. Especially since you will look at thousands of radiological pictures as a part of your training. Unfortunately, I have had difficulties finding a good book for this subject, so I ended up buying a small review book called Lecture series - Radiology. It's ok, but far from enough for the subject. You will rely on notes from lecture and practice.

I will update this page as soon as I find a good book!

Otorhinolaryngology (Ear/Nose/Throat)

The department has a small compendium that they sell for 2.500 forints.
It's actually all you need, but I decided to get the Thieme book for ENT (Thieme Flexibook - Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases). I highly recommend this book, but if you're a 'bare minumum' kinda guy, just stick to the compendium along with notes from lecture and practice, and look everything else up online!

Oral and Dental Surgery

There are no practice classes in this subject, just one lecture per week.
I didn't get any books in this subject. Instead I used my Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, along with my books in Surgery.

Cardiology

Since this subject is mostly done in the clinic (you'll have a short lecture weekly and a longer practice with patient contact).
I was recommended Hurst's The Heart - Manual of Cardiology by my teacher and I really like it. Great to bring to each class, because of it's size, and it covers everything we have seen.
I don't own it myself, but I have been highly recommended Netter's Cardiology. It is quite expensive, though, so Hurst's The Heart - Manual of Cardiology is more than enough for this class.

Public Health

You will get all the handouts you need. Also, the department has a book they sell for 2.500 forints. That's all you need.

For the second semester you will also have the following classes (NOTE: Half the students have Dermatology the first semester and ENT the second, and the other half has ENT the first semester and Dermatology the second! It is decided based on 'first come first serve' in the Neptun System)

Pulmonology

I didn't buy any books for this subject. It is a one-semester subject and the material covered is either found in your Pathology books, your Pharmacology books or simple things you pick up from lecture or your practice teacher. This is definitely a subject where you can save your money.

I will post my notes from this class under My Notes. That's all I used for the exam.

Dermatology

I got Fitzpatrick's Color Atlas & Synopsis of Clinical Dermatology for this subject and although it might seem like a big book, you will need it!
Some people in my class got the Thieme series' Dermatology book and my practice teacher just laughed at it and said "hmmm...cute" (It is way too thin and not nearly detailed enough).
The Fitzpatrick book is the best book in Dermatology (that I have seen) and it covers almost everything - and it is recommended by the Department doctors.

Orthopedics

I have not found a good book for this course. I bought one, but that was only so-so.
I will publish my notes for this subject under My Notes and that's all I used for the final exam (which was straight forward and I did very well).
