I had my entrance exam at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY.
That was my first encounter with a medical professor from Semmelweis University - professor Koller. The test and my interview must have been acceptable, because I got in:-)
I signed up for EM7 during the registration and my group consisted of 11 Norwegians, three Swedes and one American. We had a great time!
I think there are several reasons why students are having a hard time adapting to life at Semmelweis.
First of all, there is a huge gap between the nursery they call high school, and the life of a medical student at a university in Hungary. Secondly, the Hungarians are a fairly unfriendly lot - especially the bitter and angry ones. But there are cool Hungarians, too. You just don't have time to go looking for them.
If you're lucky, your neighbor is a cool guy that teaches you some Hungarian now and then. If you're really unlucky, your neighbors hate foreigners and will put gum in your lock and write shitty comments on your mailbox. Most of us a right in between - we don't really talk to our neighbors that much (unfortunately!)
When I first came to Budapest, I had bought almost every book on the booklist and gotten every paper I needed. My first task was to get an apartment.
That is a whole other story...which I will post here when I'm done with everything else!
So, here are the subjects I had in the first year:
Anatomy, Histology and Embryology
Physical education
