Second only to Physics as my favorite subject. My teacher was Dr Ronai Zsolt.
Natural science subjects, such as Chemistry and Physics, seem to be 'either you love it or you hate it' among students. In the first year at Semmelweis, you do feel like you're more of a science student than a medical student. The reason is that Hungarians have a solid foundation in natural sciences and believe (rightly so!) that this is a necessity in order to understand crucial subjects, such as Pharmacology or Radiology.
A physician that doesn't know Pharmacology or Radiology is--well--hopefully not a physician for very long.
A solid knowledge of Chemistry gives you a good foundation for Biochemistry, which will give you a huge advantage in clinical subjects - if you master it.
You can see the topic list we used in Chemistry under My Notes.
Before Christmas we covered mostly inorganic and some organic chemistry.
After Christmas it was all organic chemistry and some biochemistry.
The biochemistry we had was not very well covered, so I would suggest the students to look at the first part of biochemistry topic list in the second year! (aerobic/anaerobic glycolysis, gluconeogenesis).
I loved chemistry and Dr Ronai Zsolt was really fantastic!
