My fourth year 2006/07 - Dermatology

My teacher for Dermatology was Dr Wikonkal.

During the fourth year, this is the class I spent the most time on (besides Pharmacology).
The exam is tough and they expect a lot from you.
Unlike Pulmonology, Cardiology or Orthopedics, where you get a lot "for free" (several topics were covered in the third year), Dermatology is almost all new material.
Microbiology covers all the infections, pathology all the autoimmune stuff, but the most essential part: Manifestation and treatment have never been covered by another subject.
I really enjoyed this subject, but it did take some time to get use to the nomenclature. Describing a patient's lesions correctly does take a lot of practice.

We had a written midterm (all the groups together in the lecture hall).

Our final exam consisted of a practical oral part (examination of patient and describing the lesions) and a theoretical oral part (three topics, one from each of list A, B and C - see My Notes for the topic list we had).

Successful competition gave excemption from the practical oral part only.

The lectures we had:

  1. Introduction to general dermatologic pathology and diagnostics
  2. Bacterial and viral skin infections
  3. Atopic dermatitis
  4. Immunology and dermatology
  5. Seborrhoea and acne. Internal diseases and the skin
  6. Drug eruptions and bullous diseases
  7. Sexually transmitted diseases
  8. Psoriasis
  9. AIDS
  10. Non-melanoma skin tumors
  11. Malignant melanoma
  12. Autoimmune skin diseases
  13. Principles of dermatologic treatment
  14. (Competition for clinical exam)
  15. Fungal skin infections

My exams are in My Notes.
