My second year 2004/05

As you know, the second year is said to be the one where most students fail. This is actually true, but there is no reason to fear Biochemistry and Physiology - they are huge, but can be overcome by putting in the time required.
I am currently working on publishing all my notes for those two subjects, in order to help as many students as possible through my website. You will find these notes in the main menu.

Only three students failed out from the first year, so most of my group - EM7 - was intact when we started the second year.
In Anatomy we continued on to the second year with Professor Köves, in Biochemistry I had Professor Kolev and in Physiology I had Professor Nadasy. For the second semester Professor Kolev was replaced by the teacher for which he was substituting, Professor Buday, returning from the US.

Professor Kolev has gotten a bad wrap from many students. I believe it is a strongly influenced by students that fail Biochemistry for the nth time. So please, if you want to ask students about any professor at this University, make sure you don't ask a bitter students that has just failed. Personally I learned so much more from Professor Kolev than I did from Professor Buday. I am not indicating that one is a better person than the other, but in terms of teaching me personally, Professor Kolev was accurate, efficient and demanded so much that he made me study hard!

Starting the second year we were 10 Norwegians, one Swede and my American buddy Steven.
At the end of the second year we were down to six people left of the original 15 students of EM7.
Most of them failed Biochemistry and it is a very hard class, so you will have to study hard in order to master it.
Also, Physiology can be quite tricky, because it is a huge subject and one might feel lost sometimes.

I just want to soothe any panic strucken student in the 2nd year by saying the following:
You will always feel that you are behind in your studies. That 'everyone' else knows more than you do and that you barely understand the last topic before they introduce another topic during lecture. Don't panic, you will never feel 'ahead of the curriculum', so don't expect to be. Just study hard and you will make it!
