My second year 2004/05 - Anatomy, Histology and Embryology

My anatomy professor was professor Köves Katalin and I was in the 2nd Department of Anatomy.

The second year of this class is a continuation of the first year. We had the same teacher, but the curriculum was different.
The first semester of the second year (third semester) topic was Neuroanatomy.
We had histology slides regarding the brain, spinal cord and some endocrine organs.

The last semester of the second year felt like going over the first three semester in a faster pace. Repeat everything in preparation for the final exam.
We also went over cross sections during the practices. The Department sold a small booklet that had color pictures of the cross sections.

Neuroanatomy was really interesting and a lot of the students find it fascinating, although it can be hard to 'see' what they are talking about, because there are a lot of tracts and nuclei that cannot be pointed at or seen directly - we just know that they are in specific structures or crossing areas.

Midterm neuroanatomy

The setup was as follows: They had five practice rooms with different specimens in each room - brain pieces, peripheral nerves etc.
Around 80 structures were labelled with small, numbered pins. We all had a piece of paper with numbers and they split the students into five groups. Then we started in one room, after a given time they told the groups to rotate to the next room and this continued until we had been in all the rooms.
My problem is that the midterm started before they had made sure all the students were in the right rooms, so some students (including myself) missed one room, meaning we got a lower grade.

Final exam

This is probably the biggest exam I have had at Semmelweis.
The reason is not necessarily the material, but the time it takes to finish it. I started at 08.00 with gross anatomy exam: One professor asked about internal organs, one asked about muscles and two joints, and finally one asked about neuroanatomy.
That lasted around 45 minutes.
Then afterwards I had three histology slides. That lasted around 30-40 minutes.
Finally there was a written exam and after all the waiting in between we got our grades around 15.00. A long day, but finally we were done with four semesters of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology!
